Ultralight Glider Plans – Powered and Unpowered
Gliders have been part of aviation since before the Wright Brothers, and building your own ultralight glider remains one of the most accessible ways to get into the air. This plan package includes multiple glider and powered glider designs, from classic primary gliders to modern lightweight sailplanes.
What Is Included
This package contains plans for several different ultralight glider designs, including the Goat, Bug, Enduro and Flybike – all single-seat aircraft of simple construction. Both classic hand-drawn plans and modern CAD drawings are included, giving you the best of both worlds: proven vintage designs rendered in clear, dimensioned drawings.
Launch Options
These gliders can be launched by several methods: winch launch, aerotow behind another aircraft, automobile tow, or downhill launch from a suitable slope. Several of the designs can also be fitted with a small engine to create a self-launching motorglider – giving you the ability to take off under your own power and then soar on thermals once airborne.
Construction
All designs in this package use simple construction methods accessible to home builders. The primary materials are wood and fabric, with basic hardware fittings. No specialised aircraft-building tools are required – standard woodworking tools are sufficient. The simple designs mean a shorter build time compared to powered aircraft, making this an excellent first aircraft project.
Why Build a Glider?
Gliders offer pure flying at its most elemental. With no engine to maintain, fuel to buy, or propeller to balance, a homebuilt glider is the lowest-cost path to flight. Soaring in thermals, ridge lift or wave lift is one of the most rewarding experiences in aviation. Many powered aircraft pilots started with gliders and continue to fly them for the sheer joy of engineless flight.
