Add Floats to Your Homebuilt – Take Off and Land on Water
This package covers three float designs, so you can match the floats to your aircraft’s weight.
Three Float Designs
- Lightplane floats: a magazine float-building article for lightplanes weighing up to 600 lb (5 pages).
- Aluminium floats for 1,200 lb gross weight: float assembly and details, fittings and struts, rigging procedure, rudder installation, and weight and balance (4 drawings).
- Modifications for 1,500 lb gross weight: the changes to scale the aluminium floats up (1 drawing).
Construction
The 1,200 lb and 1,500 lb floats are aluminium (2024-T3 Alclad sheet) with riveted construction. The strut attach fittings are 4130 steel and are welded, so plan for some welding or have the fittings made. The drawings show one suggested way to attach the struts to an all-metal fuselage; the attach fittings have to be designed for your own aircraft’s fuselage.
Also Included
- Floatplane maintenance tips (4 pages)
