About the Spirit of St Louis
The Ryan NYP “Spirit of St Louis” was a custom-built, single-engine, single-seat monoplane designed specifically for Lindbergh’s transatlantic attempt. The 33-hour, 30-minute flight from New York to Paris covered 3,600 miles and earned Lindbergh worldwide fame. The original aircraft is displayed at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
Construction
Traditional balsa construction. Suitable for display or RC flight. The high-wing monoplane configuration is straightforward to build. This 1/12 scale produces a manageable 46-inch model – also see our larger 1/8 scale version at 69 inches.
